My Wheel experience really started before I was even born, when my dad was a Wheel winner in 1988. His appearance on Wheel has been a pretty significant part of my family, (people STILL bring up that he was on Wheel, 31 years later!) so throughout my life, I hoped more than anything that I’d be on Wheel one day, too.

When I made the decision that it was the right time to apply, I thought about how I could be creative with my video. So I wrote and recorded a musical song parody called “Being on Wheel’s What I Want.” I had so much fun making it that even if I didn’t make it on, I at least knew I tried my best.

Fast-forward about a month and a half later, and I got an e-mail saying I had a final audition in Indianapolis! I couldn’t believe it! With over a million applications a year, I felt so lucky just to make it this far! After a four hour, snow-filled drive, I went in with the confidence that I was going to make it on, because I knew my positivity would shine through. That audition was so much fun and I left with the confidence I came in with.

They told us it would be two weeks until we got our letter if we were chosen. Well, two weeks went by and I didn’t get anything. Then three weeks, then four. I had almost lost hope, until one wonderful Monday morning in December, just over four weeks later, there was a letter from Wheel in the mail!!! I fell on the floor because I was just so excited! My lifelong dream was going to come true! Never give up hope if you believe in yourself!

Two and a half months after I got my letter, I received my tape date and it was a whirlwind! I spent those two weeks doing nothing but watching tons of Wheel and playing hangman (the best kind of studying!). My mom, brother, and dad all got to come, and it was really cool that my dad got to be there after being on it himself so many years ago. I was up at five in the morning FILLED with excitement! This was my dream come true! I was so excited that it was finally happening! I didn’t want to worry about feeling nervous; I already felt like a winner.

The whole day went by so fast, just like everyone says. Seeing the actual wheel for the first time and being in that studio was a surreal experience. The Island Hopping set was absolutely stunning! Spinning the wheel for the first time was unlike any feeling I’ve ever had. Besides the fact that it was very heavy, it truly became real in that moment. I was going to be on Wheel, and I wasn’t going to let myself feel anything but grateful. When we got our groups, I hoped more than anything I’d be on the yellow spot, because that’s the spot my dad was in. When we picked our colors and I got yellow, I literally jumped up and down!

Everyone involved was so kind and there to make your day great. From my fellow contestants (who were so much fun to play with), to the contestant coordinators, hair and makeup, producers, crew, and Pat and Vanna themselves- it truly is the people that make this experience one I will never forget. There is a huge place in my heart for Wheel of Fortune.

Honestly taping the show happened so fast that it’s hard to even wrap my head around the fact that it happened. I was on the second show of the day, so I didn’t have much time to wait. The wheel gave me a lot of trouble, especially in the 2nd puzzle, and I was starting to get worried that I would go home with the consolation prize. But just like when I waited for my letter, I didn’t give up hope!

It fills me with excitement just thinking about that puzzle. YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED. Well, you’re right, Wheel, I definitely was not disappointed! The Wheel was finally good to me, and not only did I win the trip to Costa Rica, but I also won a NEW CAR!!!!!!!!!! It’s so hard to win the half cars! I couldn’t even believe it! Pat came, I gave him a hug, and proceeded to feel pure joy and elation.

Making it to the Bonus Round was unreal; not only because I made it there, but also because I knew that my family, especially my dad, would get introduced! Just getting that far was so incredible. And seeing Pat talk to my dad was an equally awesome feeling. In the end, I just couldn’t see that last puzzle. I would have needed a different vowel. But I tried my best, and truthfully, the fact that I made it to the Bonus Round is something not many people can say they accomplished. My dad and I are now both Wheel winners, and that’s something we will share for the rest of our lives. The true prize is not really what you won; it’s the experience, and this was the experience of a lifetime. Wheel has been a part of my life for its entirety, and I am so proud to call myself a Wheel Alumni. My best advice to future contestants is to never, ever stop believing in yourself. Even if things aren’t going your way, keep telling yourself that you are going to win something. There is huge power in positivity!

I’ve loved watching Wheel of Fortune for as long as I can remember. I first visited the Wheelmobile in May of 2007. I couldn’t believe it when I got an email in June 2015 asking me to come audition for the show. To be honest, I thought it was a joke, but I decided joke or not I was going to go and try out. I was lucky enough to have a co-worker who had gone through the audition process and be on the show, so I had a leg up on what to expect. The audition was fun and light-hearted, but the written test is no joke! I was excited to walk away with a t-shirt, because that’s all I thought I would end up with. Needless to say, when I opened up the mail and saw the big Wheel of Fortune logo in my mailbox saying I had been selected, I was over the moon!!!!

Fast forward several months and I am in Culver City, CA filming Wheel of Fortune! This still seems unreal as I type this now. The entire experience was amazing and was perfect from start to finish, including the weather!!! The staff that works for Wheel are beyond magnificent. They work their tails off and have a blast doing it. They made us all feel right at home, and had us ready to play America’s Game. Spinning the Wheel is tough. I never knew there were so many do’s and don’t to properly spinning that mammoth monster. The worst part for me was getting my hair caught in the sticky lip gloss that the make-up team had applied as I leaned over to spin the Wheel!

While viewers are at home on their couch relaxing with their bowl of ice cream, the players are looking at so many different screens to make sure they aren’t calling a letter that has already been called, making sure they have money to buy a vowel, remember what the category is, and making sure that you are smiling, having fun, and trying to solve the puzzle. Oh my goodness, it’s an overwhelming wonderful experience. My goal was to just solve one puzzle and have an unforgettable time. Mission accomplished!!!

I’d highly recommend for anyone who loves watching the show to take a chance and send in an audition video. It truly is people from all over the country just like you and me that audition. You may just surprise yourself! And if you don’t want to audition, at least sign up to be a Wheel Watcher! My husband and I play a little game every night when we watch Wheel. We always try to come up with a name of someone we know that matches the initials of the nightly Wheel Watcher winner.
